Do you ship nationally?

Yes, please see our SHOP page.

How does the soup stay frozen when it’s shipped?

We use two-day shipping and the soups/broths are wrapped in insulated foil with cold packs and dry ice.  The soups/broths may be slushy when they arrive but can be refrozen upon delivery for up to six months.

How are the soups and broths packaged?

The frozen soups and broths are packaged in BPA-free FoodSaver bags. The soups and broths are always chilled for 12 hours before being packaged.  At some locations, the Bone Broths are available fresh in glass quart jars. Please see my HOME page for a complete list of locations.

How long do frozen soups last?

Mama Tong soups and broths are made weekly in small batches. If purchased frozen I recommend consuming within six months.  Once defrosted use within one week. For fresh Bone Broth purchased in glass jars, I recommend using within two weeks.

How do I heat up my frozen soup/broth?

For best results, thaw the frozen soup/broth in the refrigerator. Once it’s thawed, cut the top of the bag, pour into a saucepan, and slowly on low heat, bring to a boil.  If you don’t have time to thaw in the refrigerator, cut open the back of the bag by making a large X, peel off the bag, and place the frozen block of soup/broth in a saucepan or stockpot with a lid on a very low flame. Allow it to slowly melt and heat.

Are you soups and broths only for new mamas?

No, not at all! Some of the soups are traditionally given to women recovering from childbirth, but all of the soups and broths are wonderful for anyone looking for a delicious, nourishing meal.

Are your ingredients certified organic?

I am committed to using all certified organic ingredients and there are a few exceptions.  I use Michiu Rice Wine in the Herbal Chicken Soup and in the Ginger Chicken Bone Broth.  The Herbs in the Herbal Chicken Soup and in the Mushroom Stew come from Mayway, a high quality Chinese Herb Distributor in Oakland that provides unsulfured and preservative-free herbs.   I have yet to find a source for organic curry leaves, galangal ginger or lemon grass so I currently purchase those ingredients for the Chicken Curry and the Vegan Curry in the conventionally grown section of Berkeley Bowl.  If you know where I can purchase these ingredients organic, please let me know!

What kind of meat do you use?

I use certified organic chicken for the Chicken Curry, Herbal Chicken Soup and Ginger Chicken Bone Broth.  I use bones from pasture-raised animals to make the Lamb, Chicken and Beef Bone Broths.
